Truckee baseball | Five-run seventh lifts Wolverines to victory at Sparks
The Truckee baseball team looked destined for a league loss after host Sparks rallied for an eight-run sixth inning to take a 9-5 lead Tuesday.
But the Wolverines bounced back with a five-run rally of their own in the top of the seventh to take over the lead and hold on for a 10-9 victory.
Truckee, which lost 9-8 at Sparks on April 1, is now 3-7 in Northern Division I-A play. Sparks fell to 2-12.
The Wolverines used five different pitchers along the way, with senior left-hander Ty Vaio tossing a scoreless bottom of the seventh to earn the save. Riley Guiragossian, Miles Guiragossian, JJ Bellon and Joey Gravell also threw for the Wolverines.
Truckee out-hit Sparks 11-8 in the contest, with Gavin Broad leading the way with a 3-for-5 performance with an RBI. Johnny Spaich and Michael Jones each drove in two runs, while Teagan Pado and Bradley VanSchoonhoven contributed an RBI apiece. Spaich and VanSchoonhoven each had a double.
Alejandro Villegas, who started on the mound for the Railroaders, was the only Sparks player with more than one hit, going 2-for-4 with a double and RBI. Truckee tagged Villegas for six runs on seven hits in six innings.
The Wolverines are scheduled to play three league games at Elko (10-4) this Friday and Saturday.
