Truckee baseball tops Portola

The Truckee High baseball team defeated visiting Portola 9-7 in a non-league game on Saturday.

The Wolverines are now 12-8 overall and 8-5 in Northern 3A league play.

Freshman Maclane Brady started on the mount and picked up the win for the Wolverines. Brady threw 6 2/3 innings, allowing six hits and seven runs ” four earned ” while striking out two and walking three.

Sophomore Justin Vosburgh came in to close the game, retiring the last two batters in the seventh inning.

Offensively for the Wolverines, Vosburgh went 2-for-4 with two doubles and two RBIs. Pablo Esquivel was 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBIs, Brendan Driscoll 1-for-4 with a double and two RBIs, Clayton McDonnell 1-for-2 with an RBI, Kevin Decker 1-for-2, Andrew Mazzini 1-for-3, Tucker Nevin 1-for-3 and Cruz Esquivel 1-for-3.

Truckee was missing several players on Saturday, leaving a team of nine, and only four starters, to face Portola.

Truckee hosts Lowry on Tuesday at 1 p.m.
