Truckee baseball: Win at Dayton keeps perfect league mark intact
Truckee improved to 4-0 in Northern 3A league play with a 10-6 win at Dayton on Wednesday.
Senior Scott Mathot started on the mound and picked up the win, striking out five batters and allowing four earned runs in 4 2/3 innings. Ryan Zusy pitched the final 2 1/3 innings, giving up two earned runs while recording five strikeouts.
Dayton (1-3 league, 4-5 overall) had six hits in the game and scored one run in the first inning, one in the second and four in the fifth on a grand slam. The four-run home run brought the score to 7-6, Truckee, after the Wolverines scored three runs in the second inning, one in the third and three more in the fourth.
The Wolverines (5-3 overall) swatted 12 hits in the game, led by senior catcher Kevin Decker’s 4-for-4 day at the plate with three RBIs and two runs on a triple and two doubles.
Senior shortstop Justin Vosburgh went 3 for 5 with two RBIs and two runs on a home run ” a “bomb to center,” Truckee coach Mike Ellis said ” and a double. Maclane Brady went 2 for 4 with a run and RBI.
Michael Taylor, Travis Dwyer and Zusy each had a hit, while Jordan Deiro scored two runs and stole two bases. Brady and Matt Theis added a stolen base apiece, and Dwyer had an RBI.
