Truckee baseball: Wolverines go 1-3 in Carson Tournament

The Wolverines went 1-1 on the final two days of the Carson Tournament this past weekend, beating Fallon 13-5 on Friday and falling to Carson 4-2 on Saturday.

Truckee finished the tourney 1-3 overall competing against all 4A programs.

Junior pitcher Jamison White threw the first three innings and picked up the win against Fallon, and Matt Theis pitched the final three innings for the Wolverines.

Truckee senior Justin Vosburgh went 2 for 4 at the plate with a double, three RBIs and three runs scored. Ryan Zusy went 2 for 3 with an RBI and a run, while Michael Fagan was 1 for 3 with a double, two RBIs and a run, Kevin Decker 1 for 3 with three runs, Michael Taylor 1 for 4 with two runs, and Scott Mathot 1 for 3 with two runs.

Vosburgh started on the mound for the Wolverines against Carson, allowing two earned runs in five innings while striking out three and allowing seven hits.

“He threw a great game,” said Truckee head coach Mike Ellis. “He kept those guys at bay.”

Junior Jordan Deiro, who pitched the final inning for Truckee, went 1 for 3 with a run, while Fagan was 1 for 3 with a double, Zusy 1 for 2 with a run and Travis Dwyer 1 for 3 with an RBI.

Opening the tournament on Thursday, Truckee lost 11-4 to South Tahoe and 8-5 to North Valleys.
