Truckee baseball: Wolverines to host first-round playoff series against Fernley

Sun Staff reports

The Northern 3A playoff picture came into focus this past Saturday as the league wrapped up its regular season.

Spring Creek and Truckee, which ended on a bye week, finished with the same 15-3 league record and will enter the postseason as the North’s Nos. 1 and 2 seeds, respectively. The Spartans own the tiebreaker after taking two of three from the Wolverines during the season.

Truckee will host third-seeded Fernley (9-9) in a best-of-three playoff series split between Friday and Saturday, while Spring Creek hosts Sparks (7-11) the same days. Friday’s games start at 3:30 p.m. Saturday’s start at 10 a.m. and, if necessary, 1 p.m.

Winners of the two playoff series advance to the 3A state championship, which is scheduled for May 21-23 at Faith Lutheran High School in Las Vegas.
