Truckee baseball: Wolverines voted to All-State, All-League teams

Submitted to the SunTruckee senior Justin Vosburgh made the All-State first team as a pitcher.

Truckee seniors Kevin Decker and Justin Vosburgh were voted to the 3A All-State first team, while teammates Mike Fagan, Jordan Deiro and Maclane Brady made the second team.

Selections were voted on by the four coaches with teams in the 3A state championship tournament.

Decker was voted to the first team at catcher. Vosburgh is one of three pitchers on the first team along with Terry Unruh of Faith Lutheran and Zach Horlacher Virgin Valley, which won the state championship for the second straight year this past Saturday.

Fagan made the second team at first base, Deiro as a utility player and Brady as a pitcher.

Travis Leavitt, another pitcher from Virgin Valley, was voted Most Valuable Player, while Virgin Valley’s Boyd Wittwer and Spring Creek’s Scott Gilligan were named Coaches of the Year.

Truckee landed five players on the Northern Region’s All-League first team ” Decker, Vosburgh, Brady, Deiro and Fagan.

Truckee senior Michael Taylor made the second team as an outfieldder, and Scott Mathot and Travis Dwyer received honorable mention recognition as utility players.

Brett Pickett of Spring Creek was voted MVP and Gilligan Coach of the Year.

Selections were voted on by Northern 3A league coaches.
