Truckee basketball | Boys, girls win big at home
The Truckee boys’ and girls’ basketball teams both enjoyed runaway wins against visiting Whittell on Friday night, the girls by a score of 60-19 and the boys 60-35.
In the girls’ game, the Wolverines jumped out to a big lead early with help from their full-court press. They backed off the press near the end of the first quarter before taking a 33-10 lead into the halftime break.
and#8220;The girls played a much more complete game,and#8221; said Truckee head coach Geoff Stephens. and#8220;They’re not quite there yet, but they almost played a complete four quarters.and#8221;
Stephens said he was pleased that his team recorded 18 assists while committing only six turnovers. They also had 36 total rebounds, with 18 offensive boards and 18 defensive.
Senior center Aleigh Krug posted a team-high 14 points. Senior guard Carly Maurer finished with 10 points, while Sydnie English scored nine, Jackie Bolton had eight, Ashley Harris six and Krysta Murphy five. Every Wolverine scored except for Courtney Shalvis, who contributed two assists and two steals in the win.
In the boys’ game, Truckee turned a 26-22 halftime lead into a 41-26 advantage by the end of the third quarter after holding the Warriors to just four points.
Senior post Trent McMullen led the Wolverines with 12 points, while Clayton O’Connell scored 11, Trevor Mort had nine, Max Blinoff eight and Zac Pettit seven.
