Truckee basketball: Boys split league contests

TRUCKEE and#8212; The Truckee boys split a pair of Northern 3A league games against Dayton and Yerington this past weekend.

The Wolverines defeated Dayton 64-52 on the road Friday before stumbling to a 78-57 home loss to the Lions on Saturday, evening their record at 2-2 in league play.

and#8220;It was just a complete turnaround from the night before,and#8221; said Truckee head coach Mike Hoehn, calling Saturdayand#8217;s loss a and#8220;complete meltdown.and#8221;

Yerington took advantage of cold Truckee shooting from the onset to jump out to a quick 10-2 lead. With a distinct size advantage, the Lions also out-rebounded the Wolverines by a large margin while benefiting from the physical play allowed by the officiating crew.

Truckee cut the lead to six points by halftime but could not maintain any momentum after the break as Yerington pulled away for the 21-point win.

Senior guard Matt Mehan led the Wolverines with 15 points, while junior post player Ben Bolton scored 14 points in the loss.

Mehan scored 20 points against the Dust Devils on Friday, including a dunk, and senior Tyler Ferris had 16 points and James DePew 13.
