Truckee basketball: Girls enter today’s state tournament as No. 3 seed

TRUCKEE, Calif. and#8212; The Truckee girls finished 2-1 in the Northern 3A regional championship this past weekend in Winnemucca to earn a No. 3 seed entering state.

Truckee started out with a 49-28 win against Fernley on Thursday to advance past the first round. The Wolverines then lost to second-seeded Lowry 47-31 in a semifinal Friday, and followed with a 58-41 win against Dayton in the third-place game.

Top-seeded Spring Creek, which remains undefeated against the Northern 3A, defeated Lowry 48-37 for the regional title.

The Wolverines (10-5 league) face Spring Creek in a state semifinal Friday at 6:20 p.m. at Damonte Ranch High School in Reno. Virgin Valley, the top seed from the South, faces Lowry in the other semifinal. The winners meet in the 3A state championship Saturday at noon at Lawlor Events Center.
