Truckee basketball | Girls lose championship game of own tournament

The Truckee girls’ basketball team started off 2-0 in its own Truckee Invitational Tip-off Tournament before losing in the championship game, 78-30, to Miramonte (Calif.) on Saturday.

After winning their first two games by a combined score of 135-36, the Wolverines struggled from the get-go against a Miramonte squad that annihilated all three of its opponents in the tournament and#8212; beating Incline 78-25 and Lutheran 84-17 before routing Truckee.

Truckee managed just two points in the first quarter and nine by the midway point as the Matadors built a 45-9 lead at the half.



Senior point guard Megan Shalvis led the Wolverine with 13 points, seven rebounds, seven steals and four blocks. Aleigh Krug added five points and 10 rebounds, and Sydnie English had five points and five boards.

Against Loyalton in Game 2 on Friday, Truckee jumped out to a 24-3 lead by the end of the first quarter and 41-11 by the half as Krug led the way with a game-high 21 points and 13 rebounds. Shalvis contributed 10 points, six assists and seven steals.
