Truckee basketball: JV girls off to 3-0 start
After opening the season with a win over North Valleys, Truckee’s JV girls swept their way through Wooster and Damonte Ranch ” all 4A programs.
The Wolverines defeated Wooster 42-31 on Tuesday night and were led by Natalie Duner’s defense and ability to distribute the ball to her teammates, said head coach Geoff Stephens. Aly Coronado-Smith and Aleigh Krug were the leading scorers with 8 and 12 points, respectively. Allyson Cost chipped in another six points, while six other Truckee players contributed offensively.
The Wolverines dominated the boards both offensively and defensively with a total of 31 rebounds. Kennedy Power, Bailey LeClair and Krug were the queens of the board.
On Wednesday night the Wolverines hosted the Damonte Ranch Mustangs and held on to win 36-25. After leading 31-7 at half, the Wolverines had to hold on against a hard-fighting and hungry opponent.
Coronado-Smith was the high scorer with nine points, followed by LeClair’s six and Costa’s five. Also chipping in to the first-half offensive barrage were Power, Alyssa Collins and Kyrsta Murphy, all with four points. Duner and Carly Maurer each added a basket, and Sara Shontz added three assists and two steals.
Truckee travels to Galena on Saturday and returns home on Monday and Wednesday to host Carson and Incline Village.
