The Truckee basketball teams ended their seasons with league losses at Fernley on Saturday, the boys by a 46-38 score and the girls 48-46.
Truckee’s girls started off on the right foot, jumping out to a 16-11 lead by the end of the first quarter. The Wolverines were outscored 17-9 in the second quarter, however, and 14-10 in the third to fall behind by seven entering the final frame.
Truckee came back in the fourth quarter, scoring 11 points to Fernley’s six, but it wasn’t enough as the Vaqueros hung on for the two-point win.
Senior guard Kaylee “Ned” Neill led all scorers with 15 points, while sophomore point guard Sydney Mock scored 11 points, Lauren Peak had eight, Emily Houghton five and Anais Fay four.
Courtney Dunn led Fernley with 12 points. Heather Donohue added 11 points and Lynsee Ferretto 10.
Truckee ended the season 7-9 in Northern Division I-A play and 7-15 overall. Fernley ended 4-12 in league and 8-17 overall.
The boys game remained close throughout, as Fernley led 10-9 at the end of the first quarter and 22-17 at the half. The Wolverines outscored the Vaqueros 11-8 in the third quarter to pull to within two, but the hosts stretched the lead in the fourth to the eight-point final margin.
Kevin Montgomery led the Vaqueros with 17 points, while Dominic Ceresola contributed 13 points. Truckee stats were not available.
The Wolverines finished with a 2-14 record in league and 4-17 overall. Fernley was 5-11 in league and 10-13 overall.
