Truckee boys pick up pair of wins ahead of season finale
The Truckee basketball team has had a rough run through league play this season, but the boys are a game away from closing the year on a high note.
After going 1-13 in the Northern League, the Wolverines picked up wins in two of their past three games and will have another shot at victory Thursday night at home in the regular-season finale against North Valleys.
Last weekend, the Wolverines traveled to Eastern Nevada and split a pair of contests against Spring Creek and Elko.
The team opened the two-game road trip on Friday by topping the Spartans 41-34 in one of the squad’s best performances of the season.
Sophomore Ethan Flynn poured in 18 points, which included a trio of 3-pointers. Flynn also pulled down a team-high seven rebounds. Junior Isaac Cruz tallied nine points and junior Payton Schuchert scored eight points.
The boys then headed to Elko the following day and were topped 59-21 by the first-place Indians. Elko senior Alex Klekas put on an impressive performance from the field, scoring 26 points on 10 of 14 shooting.
The Wolverines returned home on Tuesday night and topped Sparks, 55-31, completing a sweep of the Railroaders on the year.
Truckee (8-14, 2-14 Northern League) will close out the season Thursday night at home against North Valleys (10-16, 5-12 Northern League). The Panthers defeated the Wolverines 70-60 earlier in the year.
