Truckee boys soccer defeats Reno

The Truckee High boys soccer team defeated Reno 4-1 in a nonleague road game Monday.

“We played really well. I think it was our best game so far,” said Truckee head coach Hernan Valdivia. “We played a complete game for 80 minutes.”

Sophomore Raul Cardenas recorded a hat trick for the Wolverines, scoring three goals, while senior Jaysen Gomez scored Truckee’s fourth goal.

“Raul had an incredible game,” Valdivia said.

Cardenas put the Wolverines in front 1-0 in the first half on a through ball delivered by senior Max Brixey, who also assisted another Cardenas goal. Gomez scored on the rebound of a shot attempt by junior Mauricio Munoz.

Valdivia said he hoped to built a substantial lead so he could rest his starters and have them fresh for a league game at Incline on Tuesday. He got that chance after the Wolverines scored two goals in the first nine minutes of the second half to extend their lead to 3-0.

Both Truckee High soccer teams play league games at Incline on Tuesday. The girls start at 3 p.m. and the boys at 5 p.m.
