Truckee boys soccer | Wolverines go 2-2 in opening tournament

The Truckee High boys soccer team opened its season with a 2-2 showing in the annual Howell Memorial Tournament in Reno this past weekend.

The Wolverines started the tournament with a 4-0 win against McQueen and followed with another shutout, 2-0, against Spanish Springs. Truckee then lost 1-0 to Galena and 2-1 to Reno, with the deciding goal coming on a penalty kick.

Senior forward Michael Brixey scored two goals and recorded an assist for Truckee, while sophomore Fernando Rodriguez contributed two goals on the weekend.

Truckee head coach Hernan Valdivia said he was impressed with his team’s performance. The coach was particularly pleased with the play of senior Jason Apolinar, who he said and#8220;played like a man among boysand#8221; as he controlled the flow of the game from his center midfield position.

Nash McMullen Bryan Reed also played well defensively, Valdivia said, and sophomore goalkeeper Nacho Diaz recorded the two shutouts.
