Truckee cross country | Flora, Ariza lead Wolverines at Stanford Invite

A couple of Truckee freshmen more than held their own against hundreds of varsity runners from California and Nevada at the Stanford Invitational in Palo Alto this past Saturday.Skyler Flora finished 14th overall and was the second freshman in a field of 212 athletes in the varsity girlsandamp;#8217; Division 4 race. On the boysandamp;#8217; side, Nathan Ariza finished 24th and was the first freshman to finish out of 232 runners.Flora posted a time of 19 minutes and 7 seconds on the 5,000-meter course, which was won by sophomore Anna Maxwell of San Lorenzo Valley in a time of 17:37. Truckee junior Ruby Wood finished 61st in 20:44.In the Division 4 varsity boysandamp;#8217; race, Ariza posted a time of 16:47 to record his top-25 finish. Senior Alexi Taylor of Cardinal Newman won the race in 15:49. Freshmen brothers Noah and Nick Oberriter also competed in the varsity race for the Wolverines, placing 50th (17:15) and 72nd (17:31), respectively. Truckeeandamp;#8217;s Alex Kopytko (143rd, 18:22), Kyle Jorgensen (161st, 18:41), Nick Morgan (203rd, 20:07) and John Guerra (207th, 20:13) ran the varsity race as well.The Truckee boys finished 16th overall out of 33 Division 4 teams, with an average time of 17:44. St. Maryandamp;#8217;s of Berkeley won with an average time of 16:43.
