Truckee girls beat Fallon in tourney opener

RENO The Fallon High basketball team scored more points in the first quarter than it did for the rest of the game in its 39-31 loss to Truckee Wednesday morning in the first round of the ABD Insurance/Holiday Invitational at McQueen.We came out ready to play. We executed a few things very fell, Fallon coach Scott Meihack said. Truckee wasnt quite as prepared and they appeared to get their game back.The Wolverines (8-1, 3-0) beatFallon by nine points two weeks ago in the North Valleys tournament.Truckee junior Breanne Busby led both teams with 11 points and Melanie Lashbrook and Kelly Stephens each had seven. Logan White added five points. Sarah Parsons led Fallon with 10 points before fouling out in the fourth quarter and Bailey Corkill and Nunes each added five. Jeannie Gandolfo scored four points. After falling behind 17-10 by the end of the first quarter, the Wolverines defense prevented the Wave from scoring in the second quarter until Tosha Nunes hit a layup with 30 seconds left. The girls arent used to reacting to that on offense, Meihack said about facing Truckees pressure defense. Gandolfo added that Truckee forced Fallon to speed up its offense in the second quarter, leading to the Wolverines scoring 11 unanswered points. We werent playing at our own pace, the senior forward said. We let them control how fast we went.
