Truckee girls soccer | Wolverines finish 1-2 at Galena tournament

The Truckee girls soccer team went 1-2 and failed to score a goal in regulation during the season-opening Howell Memorial Tournament at Galena.

The Wolverines began the tourney with a 1-0 loss to Incline, the team they beat in the state semifinal last year, then followed with a 1-0 win against 4A McQueen and a 2-0 loss to 4A Douglas. Truckee head coach Amy Valdivia said the Wolverines hit the goal post or crossbar at least seven times in the tournament, but simply could not find the back of the net.

The win against McQueen came on penalty kicks, with all four Truckee players making their shots and#8212; Shauna Day, Kelsey Porter, Ali Haines and Serena Dill. Shannon Ondry made a huge save on the first penalty kick that McQueen took, and McQueen missed its fourth shot.

and#8220;Overall it was a great weekend for us, despite the results,and#8221; Valdivia said. and#8220;We found our strengths to capitalize on, and discovered the areas we need improvement on, which we’ve already started focusing on this week.
