Truckee girls win again

The Truckee High girls soccer team beat Pershing 12-0 on the road Thursday and defeated Fernley 5-0 Saturday in Truckee.

Truckee is now 8-0 in the Northern 3A Sierra League and 12-2 overall.

Many Wolverines scored against Pershing on Thursday, including Sam Deen (2), Katie Dill (2), Blandine Garez (2), Sara Grossman, Lauren O’Neil, Nicole Oxandaboure, Nikki Panziera, Stephanie O’Neil and Megan Colin.

Despite the start time of the game being delayed 45 minutes due to lack of referees, the Wolverines came out focused and played good one- and two-touch ball, said Truckee head coach Amy Valdivia.

“The girls accomplished things we worked on during practice, such as turning with a man on your back, getting the ball wide and not forcing the play,” Valdivia said.

Against Fernley on Saturday, a Northern 3A Sagebrush League opponent, Truckee received goals from Dill (2), Grossman, Deen and Stephanie O’Neil.

Dill, a sophomore forward, scored four goals in the two games.

Truckee plays at Sparks on Tuesday at 2 p.m.
