Prep roundup: Truckee girls look for fifth straight win
The only thing to slow the Truckee girls’ basketball team’s momentum lately has been inclement weather, which forced the squad’s game last Tuesday against Churchill County to be rescheduled.
After opening league play with three consecutive losses, the Lady Wolverines have vaulted up the Class 3A Northern League standings behind a four-game winning streak.
Last week the girls’ picked up a pair of wins, taking out Fernley at home on Friday, before traveling to South Tahoe for a victory against the Vikings.
Truckee senior Ava Seelenfreund led the team against the Vaqueros with 15 points and 11 rebounds as the Wolverines held on for a 49-44 victory. Sophomore Emma Cooley added 10 points for Truckee. Sophomore Annika Thayer pulled down nine rebounds and scored six points.
Seelenfreund and Thayer combined for 22 points the next day against South Tahoe as the Wolverines used a 20-point fourth quarter to pull away from the Vikings and take a 39-32 win.
Thayer dominated the paint with 19 rebounds (12 offensive), and three blocks. Seelenfreund finished the game with 12 rebounds for another double-double.
Truckee (11-3, 4-3 Northern League) will travel to Reno to face league newcomers, North Valleys (3-14, 2-6 Northern League), on Friday, Jan. 18.
Truckee boys still in search of wining recipe
The Truckee boys’ basketball team fell to 0-7 in Class 3A Northern League play after a pair of losses last week.
The boys dropped a close game at home to Fernley last Friday, falling 58-50. The team then traveled to South Tahoe the following day, and were topped, 65-48, by the Vikings.
Truckee (5-7, 0-7 Northern League) will next travel to play North Valleys (8-9, 3-5 Northern League) on Friday, Jan. 18.
Lakers look to build momentum against Coral Academy
The North Tahoe boys’ basketball team won its lone game last weekend, taking a 39-36 win on the road against Pershing County.
North Tahoe (10-6, 4-4 Northern League) will next travel to Reno to play Coral Academy of Science — Reno (0-14, 0-8 Northern League) on Saturday, Jan. 19. The Lakers topped the Falcons 45-33 earlier in the year.
North Tahoe girls look to snap losing streak
The North Tahoe girls’ basketball team suffered a 45-21 loss at Pershing County last Saturday.
The Lady Lakers are now on a six-game losing streak.
North Tahoe (2-14, 1-7 Northern League) should be able to get back in the win column on Saturday at Coral Academy of Science — Reno (0-10, 0-8 Northern League). The Lakers beat the Falcons 39-27 earlier in the season.
