Truckee golf | Annika Nousiainen finishes third at state

For the second straight year, Truckee senior Annika Nousiainen finished third individually in the 3A Nevada State Girls Golf Championship in Elko on Monday and Tuesday.

Nousiainen shot an 83 on Day 1 and an 82 on Day 2 for a combined score of 165 on the 5,332-yard, par-72 Ruby View Golf Course.

She was 10 strokes off the individual title earned by Randi Lewis of Boulder City, who shot a 78 and a 77 for a winning score of 155. Morgan Murphy of South Tahoe finished runner-up with a 163.

Murphy, Nousiainen and Kayley Shupe of Boulder City finished Day 1 in a three-way tie, but Murphy shot an 80 on the second day to move into second place and Shupe shot an 89 to fall to seventh.

Nousiainen was the only Truckee golfer to compete, as the top three teams from the North and top team from the South during the regular season advanced to state. The top seven golfers from unqualified teams in the North made state, while the top five from the South competed. There were a total of 33 golfers.

Boulder City won the state championship with a team score of 672, followed by Elko (716), Lowry (834) and Spring Creek (836).
