Truckee golfers win sixth-straight

On a windy and cold April 22 afternoon at Eagle Valley Golf Course in Carson City, the Truckee boys golf team won its sixth event in a row to start 2004.

After a couple close matches, Truckee distanced itself from the competition and captured an 11-stroke victory over second-place Lowry behind a round of 74 shot by Wes Hollabaugh, one stroke behind the top individual performers on the day.

“We are starting to see Wes string together some sub-80 rounds,” said Truckee head coach Jeff Froelich. “He is extremely competitive. Look for him to stay close to the leaders from here on out.”

Senior Matt Blesse and junior Ian Casey shot 80s, and Kevin Waters and Nathan Wrenn shot 81s as the rest of the Truckee team was bunched up in the low 80s, good for another team victory with three events remaining until the state meet.

It would take a severe Truckee derailment to lose its current nine-point Northern 3A league lead over second-place Lowry. For a first-place finish, a team earns nine points at a particular event.

Truckee travels next to Spring Creek for a 10 a.m. competition on Friday, April 30.
