The results of Saturday’s doubleheader against rival North Tahoe High jeopardized an entire season of hard work for the Truckee High varsity baseball team.

The Wolverines dropped both of the much-needed final games of the season, 8-4 and 6-3, bringing their record to 9-7 and placing them in a three-way tie with Fernley and Dayton for the fourth and final playoff spot.

But the Wolverines can exhale. They’re in ” barely.

Tie-breakers in high school baseball are decided by the total number of runs scored in league play, as well as the results of how the tied teams fared against each other during the season. According to the equation, Truckee is playoff bound.

“I was bummed out all weekend,” Truckee coach Mike Ellis said, “but now we have a new chance. We’re starting all over again. I think [the losses] were a good wake-up call for us. We’ve just got to play hard now.”
