Truckee JV girls’ soccer | Wolverines sweep past Elko, Fallon
The Truckee JV girls’ soccer team traveled to Fallon on Saturday and won both games of a doubleheader, 2-1 against Elko and 1-0 against Fallon.
Truckee played well against Elko in the first game. The first goal was beautifully set up by Melissa Cardoza, who passed the ball to Maison Power, who chipped it over the goalie into the net. Truckee’s second goal was scored off of an assist by Ashley Harris, who passed it to Cynthia Santana, who blasted it into the net. The MVP of the game was Karina Rivera for her tough defense. Cassandra Sawyer played a great game, holding Elko to only the one goal.
Frustration mounted in the second game against Fallon, when the Truckee girls couldn’t seem to get the ball into the net. After 21 shots on goal, Truckee finally scored when Cardoza passed the ball to Shelby Matthews, who scored the game-winning shot within the last five minutes. Sydney Vandenberg played skillful game and was named the MVP by coach Katie.
