Seven students ages 7 to 9 from Truckee’s Pacific Crest Martial Arts will compete in the USA National Karate Championships at the Peppermill Resort Spa Casino in Reno this Thursday through Sunday.

The students have been preparing for the event since the beginning of the year, participating in intensive daily practices and attending numerous Northern California tournaments.

“We are in training weekday mornings and most evenings,” said student Reagan McCormick.

Sensei Tony Altieri said he and his team are excited for the USA Nationals event, which hasn’t been contested on the West Coast in 12 years.

Information about the tournament is available at www. teamusa.org/USA-Karate/Events/National-Championships.

Pacific Crest Martial Arts practices Shito-Ryu, a traditional Okinawan karate. New students are always welcome.
