Truckee Little League: Renegade All-Stars off to hot start in tourney

The Truckee Little League Renegades got off to a smoking start in the Nevada District 1 All-Star Tournament in Sparks this past week, winning their first three games by a combined score of 48-29.

After three days, the Truckee Renegades and#8212; a group of 9- to 11-year-old players and#8212; are the only undefeated squad in the 10-team tournament. They started last Thursday with a 15-14, nail-biter win in extra innings against Carson, then followed with a 20-12 win against Sparks and a 13-3 win against Reno National.

Against Carson, Truckee starting pitcher Colin Just picked off the possible winning run at third, second baseman Devin Lewis laid out for a line drive and infielder Cooper Davis snagged the final out on an unbelievable run and catch down the right field line to highlight the Renegades’ win.

Truckee stormed out to a 12-run first inning against Sparks the next day before cruising to the 20-12 rout. Reece Rule hit an inside-the-park grand slam to help power the Truckee offense.

After their 2-0 start, Truckee starting pitcher Marcus Bellon then effectively shut down Reno National, throwing 65 of Truckee’s 69 pitches in the game, to keep the win streak alive. Solid hitting and baserunning across the board helped lead the Truckee all-stars to the win by 10-run mercy rule.

The Truckee team and#8212; managed by Ken Streit with help from coach Tom Just and#8212; was scheduled to play Reno American (1-2) on Tuesday night.
