Pirates 5, Giants 3 ” May 10
The Pirates used a complete team effort to defeat a tough Giants team 5-3 on May 10.
Offensive power was provided by many Pirates, including Max Collinson, who went 4 for 4, and Nick Magowan, who picked up a critical RBI double. Kelly Schmidt also hit an RBI single.
The Pirates’ Marc Biederman settled in and-pitched a strong three innings after giving up a leadoff home run to Trevor Auldridge. Ty Englert closed out the game with three strong innings.-
Defensively for the Pirates, Travis Ferre started a double play, tagging third and rifling the ball to second to force the runner. Erik Holmer started the final out by throwing a bullet from center field to home plate to nail a runner attempting to score.
Chris Towle played superb defense in the outfield for the Pirates and helped out behind the plate while Sean Howe held down second base and Nathan Wickstrom played first. Dalton Stevens also made a great defensive play on a short pop fly.
Giants 11, Padres 10 ” May 8
The Giants beat the Padres 11-10 in extra innings on May 8. The Giants tied the game in the sixth inning before Jake Pettit knocked in Derek Jones with the winning run in the seventh.
Jake Pettit started the game pitching for the Giants, going three innings and recording six strikeouts. Austin McWhinney, Trevor Aldridge and Braden Waters finished out the game. Offensively for the Giants, Aldridge went 3 for 5 with a triple and two runs; Hansi Stull 1 for 4; Waters 3 for 4 with an RBI and a run; McWhinney 3 for 5 with an RBI and two runs; Connor McKeeman 1 for 3 with a run; Josh Nicholson 2 for 2 with a triple, two RBIs and a run; Zak Pettit 1 for 4 with a run; Derek Jones 1 for 1 with a run; and Jake Pettit 3 for 4 with an RBI.

‘Let them play:’ Parents, students involved in protest at Truckee High School
Students frustrated at the cancellation of sports waved signs and delivered speeches at a Truckee High School protest in an attempt to return to the field this year.
