Truckee named best ski and snowboard town
Sierra Sun
Truckee was named “best skiing/snowboarding town” in the United States in the August 2006 issue of Outside magazine.
Citing the town’s rich history, warm community and, of course, access to a dozen ski and snowboard resorts, Truckee beat out Jackson, Wyo., for top honors.
“There’s so much freedom here, and so much you can do,” Daron Rahlves, a Truckee resident and three-time Olympic alpine skier, was quoted saying in the Outside article. “Skiing at sugar bowl is insane, with dense, heavy snow, really technical terrain, and rocks and good drops and tree skiing. It’s a gem.”
The article highlighted Truckee’s historic downtown district and variety of restaurants, as well as its access to hiking, fishing, mountain biking and whitewater as additional reasons for the top honors.
