The Truckee swim team will be well represented in the Division I-A state championship in Las Vegas this weekend.

A total of 13 Wolverines made the state cut by recording fourth-place finishes or better in 26 events at the Northern Division I-A regional finals in Carson City this past Saturday.

Truckee’s girls team, which won eight races, edged South Tahoe by just three points, 328-325, to claim the regional title. The Truckee and South Tahoe girls dominated the competition, as Lowry finished a distant third with 190 points.

Truckee’s boys, which won four races, finished third, posting 230 points to South Tahoe’s 282 and Sage Ridge’s 259. Fernley’s boys were fourth with 217.

Brittney Straw and Ingrid Suter finished 1-2 in the 100-yard breaststroke, posting times of 1:08.52 and 1:11.77, respectively, to clinch the win for the Truckee girls over the Vikings. Straw also won the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:15.14, and Suter took first in the 100 butterfly in 1:02.43.

Brittany Percin won regional titles in both the 200 and 500 freestyle for the third year in a row, with times of 2:00.67 and 5:29.07, and was part of the winning 200 medley (1:55.59) and 400 freestyle (3:59.78) relays.

Joining Percin on both relays teams were Straw, Suter and Niki Kates, who won the 100 backstroke with a personal-best time of 1:01.06 and was second in the 200 IM (2:18.82).

Kyla Burill qualified for state with second-place finishes in both the 200 butterfly (1:05.27) and 500 free (5:57.60). She also helped the 200 free relay team earn a state berth with a clutch anchor leg, as she dove in the pool in sixth place and came out in fourth. Burill was joined on the relay by Sarah Manthorpe, Ana Keith and Nicole Shactner, who also qualified in the 200 free and 500 free with fourth-place finishes, dropping five and 12 seconds, respectively, off her previous best times.

For the Truckee boys, Alex Straw claimed the regional title in the 100 breaststroke, recording a time of 1:00.16, and was part of the dominant 200 free relay (1:33.86) along with Jake Hamilton, Marcus Rodarte and Kaleb Rodarte. Straw also was second in the 200 IM, in 2:00.34.

Hamilton won the 100 free with a time of 49.86 and was second in the 100 breaststroke (1:05.56). Marcus Rodarte won the 100 backstroke in 57.0 and was second in the 100 free (49.88), just behind Hamilton.

Kaleb Rodarte placed second in the 100 butterfly (55.54) and third in the 200 IM (2:08.01), and Samuel Robertson was second in the 200 free (1:58.19) and third in the 100 butterfly (59.99).

Truckee freshman Bryce Castillo advanced to regionals in three events based on his times in Friday’s trials, swimming the 200 IM and 100 free. He opted out of the 100 breaststroke.

For North Tahoe, Alexis Glander advanced to the regional championships in the 200 IM and 100 butterfly, while the girls 200 free relay team of Picabo Fraas, Haley Perkins, Zoe Anderson and Abii Johnson also made regionals.

The state championship will take place Saturday in Las Vegas.
