The Truckee Mitey-Mite Red team recorded its first shutout of the season, 32-0, at the Fallon Greenwave this past Saturday.

The game pitted two 1-5 teams against each other, with both playing on a 100-yard field for the first time — instead of the typical 80 yards used for Pop Warner’s Mitey-Mite division.

Truckee received the opening kickoff and drove about 30 yards before turning the ball over on downs to the Greenwave. The Wolverine defense lead by defensive tackles Jason Roth, Jared Gur, Ricci Espinoza and Juan Arroyo held the Fallon offense to 5 yards and forced a three-and-out on its first possession.

Truckee’s offense sputtered again and Fallon took over possession late in the first quarter. Truckee’s defense again was up for the challenge and led by defensive ends Brandon Phillips and Sean McMullen held the Fallon Offense this time to 3 yards and forced the first punt of the day. Galdino Bravo-Karvonen fielded the punt and was able to turn the corner, due to an excellent block by Colton Conklin, and ran the ball in for a touchdown and 6-0 Truckee lead.

Truckee recovered the on-side kickoff and started in good field position on the Fallon 50-yard line. Two plays later Damon Parisi took the ball wide around Truckee’s left end and after receiving good blocks by Tait Nicholas, Ricci Espinoza and Jace Borden, ran 45 yards for Truckee’s second touchdown. Ezra Scharp started the second quarter by taking the quarterback sweep in for the extra point and a 13-0 Truckee lead. The teams traded short drives and went into halftime with Truckee leading 13-0.

Truckee got the ball in second half after another on-side recovery and ended up turning the ball over on a fumble. Again Truckee’s defense was up to the task and held Fallon to minus 4 yards. Linebackers Jake Solberg and Conklin were able to stop any attempt by Fallon to run the ball outside. Fallon choose to punt the ball and this time Damon Parisi was back to field the punt. This time Sean McMullen applied a crucial block to spring Parisi for a 55-yard touchdown run and a 20-0 Truckee lead.

Truckee again took over the ball in Fallon territory and after some tough yardage by fullback Jason Roth, Parisi took the ball around the left end again for a 23-yard touchdown. Wide out Casey Slusher made a key block to spring the touchdown run. The team headed into the fourth quarter leading 26-0.

Truckee was able to give some little-used running backs a chance to carry the ball in the fourth quarter. And after some tough running by Juan Arroyo, Ricci Espinoza, Casey Slusher, Jace Borden and Sean McMullen, Truckee had the ball on Fallon 1-yard line. Offensive Tackle Jared Gur took the ball the final yard for the touchdown. Galdino Bravo-Karvonen finished the scoring for the day taking an full back sweep into the endzone for the extra point and a 32-0 lead.

As was the case all the day long, Truckee’s defense held Fallon to little yardage on its last offensive drive of the day. Defensive tackle Christopher Luna helped contain the Fallon quarterback as the defense ended the day on a sack. Even though the offense scored 32 points, the defense really lead the charge for Truckee, limiting Fallon to under 100 yards of total offense.

The Truckee Mitey-Mite Reds will end their home season against the Truckee Mitey-Mite Whites at River View Sports Park on Saturday at noon.
