Truckee prep roundup: Girls soccer stays unbeaten after wins over South Tahoe, Incline
TRUCKEE, Calif. — The Truckee girls soccer team captured wins over 3A Northern League rivals South Tahoe and Incline last week to remain unbeaten.
On Wednesday, the Wolverines used a strong second half to hold on to a 2-1 home win over South Tahoe.
Truckee took a one-goal advantage into the break on a goal from Ava Seelenfreund, and capitalized on a South Tahoe mistake early in the second half to make it 2-0. The Vikings misplayed a ball in the back, and it led to a goal from Amber Simonpietri in the 45th minute.
Truckee’s lead was trimmed to 2-1 on a Vikings goal at the 65th minute, but the Wolverines held the rest of the way. Anchoring the defense was Truckee goalkeeper Izzy Abarno, who collected four saves.
Heather Pendleton had the team’s lone assist.
On Friday, the Wolverines kept the pace in a 4-0 road win over Incline.
Spreading the scoring, Truckee’s Ava Seelenfreund, Chloe Murphy, Marley Simpson and Olivia Koster each found the back of the net for the Wolverines.
Seelenfreund, Murphy and Sophie Curtis had an assist apiece.
In the net, Abarno and Elena Orozco preserved the shutout with three saves and one save, respectively.
Truckee (7-0, 6-0) hosts North Tahoe at 5 p.m. Wednesday.
Boys soccer: Truckee routs South Tahoe, ties Incline
Six minutes. That’s all the Truckee boys team needed to notch the proven game-winning goal in a 7-1 rout of 3A Northern League rival South Tahoe on Tuesday in South Lake Tahoe.
The Wolverines went up 2-0 six minutes into the showdown and never looked back. Spearheading the scoring spree was Joel Garcia who planted four goals in the Vikings’ net.
Rounding out the scoring were Jesse Sanchez and Jose Gonzalez with two goals apiece. Gonzales added two assists while Zack Barta recorded two assists of his own.
Goalkeepers Luis Valdez and Jose Apolinar snagged two saves each.
On Friday, Truckee let a two-goal lead slip, finishing at a 2-2 deadlock with host Incline.
The Wolverines (7-2-2) led 2-0 at halftime before allowing two unanswered goals by Incline (7-1-4) in the second half.
Truckee travels to Tahoe City on Wednesday for a 6 p.m. bout with North Tahoe.
Volleyball: Wolverines keep rolling
For the second week in a row, the Truckee volleyball team swept a pair of league opponents.
The Wolverines disposed of Fernley 3-0 (25-18, 25-16, 25-16) on the road Wednesday before blanking Dayton (25-15, 25-23, 25-20) at home Friday remain unbeaten in the 3A Northern League at 6-0.
On Wednesday, Maia Dvoracek and Madison Bromley led the charge, hammering 14 and 12 kills, respectively.
Dvoracek also led in digs with 12, followed by Sara Gran-Nilsson with 10. Jordan Brown was tops in set assists with 15.
On Friday, Dvoracek was at the helm once again with 12 kills and 12 digs.
Bromley added eight kills and eight digs, and Brown had a team-best 11 set assists.
Truckee travels to the South Shore for a 6 p.m. bout with South Tahoe on Wednesday.
Tennis: Boys, girls sweep last week
The Truckee boys and girls tennis team rolled through the competition last week, defeating North Tahoe and Sparks.
On the boys side, the Wolverines (6-1) topped the Lakers 14-4 on Tuesday before routing the Railroaders 15-3 on Thursday.
For the girls, Truckee (7-1) breezed to a 17-1 win over North Tahoe on Tuesday and a 15-3 win over Sparks on Friday.
