Truckee Rodeo kicks off

The 28th Annual Truckee Championship Rodeo kicks off today and runs, bucks and kicks through the weekend.

Over a hundred competitors are expected, including local bull rider Rick Logan.

Rodeo events, which will run on both Saturday and Sunday, include bull riding, bareback broncos, saddle broncos team roping, steer wrestling, calf roping and barrel racing.

Gates open at 2 p.m. on Saturday, with the events starting at 4 p.m. On Sunday, gates open at 11 a.m. and the roping starts at 1 p.m.

A barbecue and dance will be held after the rodeo on Saturday at the Regional Park.

Tickets for the BBQ and dance will be available at the ticket booth during the rodeo.

There will also be a number of events throughout town leading up to the weekend rodeo, including the locally sponsored team penning on Friday.

Four people on horseback have to get three cows into a pen in two minutes.

The event will be at the arena, with check in at 5 p.m. and the round up starting at 6 p.m.

Thursday is Kid’s Day at the arena, with clowns, bullfighters and even Smokey the Bear on hand.

After the kids have there fun, adults can join in the festivities on Friday night at OB’s Pub and Restaurant for a Pre-Rodeo party.

Tickets are available at various locations until Thursday night, then at the gate on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
