Truckee soccer | Boys avenge loss to Reno

The Truckee boys improved to 7-4 overall with a hard-fought, 1-0 win at 4A Reno on Monday.

Michael Brixey scored the go-ahead goal unassisted in the 72nd minute to lift the Wolverines (4-1 league) past the Huskies, who defeated Truckee, 2-1, in the season-opening Howell Memorial Tournament last month.

and#8220;It was a pretty good match and#8212; back and forth and fast and physical,and#8221; said Truckee coach Hernan Valdivia, adding that his team has improved since the first time it faced the talented Reno team. and#8220;But we were able to capitalize late in the game and hold on for the victory.and#8221;



Valdivia said senior fullback Bryan Reed played a solid game to help goalie Nacho Diaz preserve the shutout.

Truckee’s junior varsity boys also defeated Reno by a score of 1-0, winning on a goal by Rolando Zarate.
