The Truckee boys and girls soccer teams are scheduled to host league games against Dayton on Friday — girls at 3 p.m. and boys at 5.

The Truckee girls needed about one half to find their scoring groove against visiting Fernley on Wednesday. Once they did, the Vaqueros were in trouble.

After taking a 1-0 lead into the half, the Wolverines struck for four goals in the second frame to run away with a 5-0 win.

Five different Truckee players found net in the shutout, with Ava Seelenfreund scoring the only first-half goal on an assist from Chloe Murphy in the 19th minute.

Although the Wolverines controlled possession through the remainder of the half, and put together several promising runs, the Vaqueros kept them from extending the lead.

That all changed in the opening minutes of the second half. Two minutes after the break, Amber Simonpietri scored a goal assisted by Olivia Koster, while Mia Winans adjusted the score to 3-0 six minutes later on an assist from Simonpietri.

Olivia Vigano scored Truckee’s fourth goal in the 54th minute, assisted by Simonpietri, and Zareli Villa capped the scoring with a goal assisted by Natalie Seelenfreund in the 72nd minute.

Truckee leads the Northern Division I-A standings with a 5-0 record. The Wolverines are followed closely by South Tahoe, at 4-0-1, and Lowry, at 4-1. The Vaqueros fell to 0-3-1 in league.

Boys roll

Truckee’s boys bounced back from a 2-1 loss at Elko this past weekend — their second league loss — with a 2-0 win at Fernley on Wednesday.

Junior forward Hugo Gutierrez scored both of the Wolverines’ goals in the second half, with both coming off of assists from Manuel Sarabia.

The Wolverines are now 3-2 in league play, trailing Sparks (5-0), South Tahoe (3-0-2) and Lowry (3-1-1). Fernley is now 0-4.
