Top 4 advance to playoffs

Truckee had little trouble in its Division I-A soccer games at Dayton this past Thursday. The Wolverines combined to outscore the Dust Devils 26-1, as the boys won 15-1 and the girls 11-0.

In the boys game, freshman Manny Sarabia scored four goals to lead the way. Eddie Cortez and Will Krengel scored two goals apiece, while Alex Colomenares, Rolando Zarate, David Martinez, Nathan Ariza, Jose Gonzalez, Max Barta and Armando Diaz each contributed one goal.

Jordan Fereira assisted three goals and Sarabia and Colomenares each had two assists.

Truckee, which remains one point ahead of Sparks (11-1-0) in the league standings, improved to 11-0-1 in the Division I-A and 15-0-1 overall. Truckee and Sparks meet again in Sparks on Friday in a crucial league showdown. Truckee defeated Sparks 1-0 in Truckee on Sept. 20.

Lizzie Larkins got the Truckee girls off to a hot start at Dayton, as the sophomore dribbled the length of the field and scored an unassisted goal just 1 minute into the contest. Tessa Manahan followed with another goal, assisted by Emma Warren, in the sixth minute.

Marcelle Reynaud then scored consecutive goals in the 22nd and 30th minutes, assisted by Paulina Thrasher and Manahan, while Thrasher got in on the scoring in the 32nd minute off an assist from Reynaud, and Warren rounded out the first-half with a goal assisted by Lynde Tucker.

In the second half, Shannon Cardoza scored a textbook header goal off of a cross from Reynaud 11 minutes in. Tucker extended Truckee’s lead to 8-0 with an assist from recent JV call-up Kayla Redner five minutes later. Redner scored a goal assisted by Nichole Graham in the 59th minute, Graham scored off an assist from Warren, and Larkins scored the final goal off an assist from Annika Winans in the final minutes.

The Truckee girls are now 9-2-1 in league play, which is one point behind first-place South Tahoe (9-1-2). Fallon sits in third place, at 8-2-2, and Elko currently holds the fourth and final playoff seed at 8-3-1.

Both the boys and girls Northern Division I-A regional tournaments are scheduled for Nov. 8-9 at Fallon.
