Truckee soccer | Wolverines whip visiting Dust Devils
The Truckee boys’ and girls’ soccer teams dominated visiting Dayton by a combined score of 17-0 in Sierra League action Tuesday.
Truckee’s boys set the tone with an 11-0 rout while the girls followed with a 6-0 shutout.
In the girls’ game, Kaylee and#8220;Nedand#8221; Neill drew first blood with a goal assisted by Ali Haines in the 24th minute. Olivia Duner then headed in a ball off of a corner kick from Shauna Day in the 32nd minute to extend the lead to 2-0 at the half.
Sierra Castillo scored her first of two goals from just outside the 18 in the 56th minute off of a pass from Neill. She then earned her second goal in the 66th minute, again from outside the 18 on a pass from Haines.
In the 70th minute, Haines received a pass from Duner before dribbling around three defenders and hitting the high left corner. Neill buried another goal in the 73rd minute for the final score of the game, assisted by Sara Lade.
and#8220;Overall, the girls played amazingly well, maintaining a calm demeanor throughout the entire game,and#8221; said Truckee head coach Katie Jamison, whose team improved to 5-0 in league and 8-4-1 overall.
In the boys’ game, cousins Johnny and Rolando Zarate and Jesse Fereira scored two goals apiece and Nash McMullen had three assists as the Wolverines built a 7-0 halftime lead en route to the big win.
Johnny Zarate scored the first goal unassisted in the 20th minute. Austin Simonpietri scored four minutes later off an assist from Jesse Fereira, and Fereira scored three minutes after that off an assist from Nash McMullen. Rolando Zarate then scored within the next minute, also assisted by McMullen, before adding his second goal of the game unassisted just two minutes later.
When the flurry was over, the Wolverines had scored five goals within a nine-minute span. And they were far from done, as Fereira put in another unassisted goal in the 36th minute and David Martinez converted in the 41st minute to round out the first-half scoring.
Reed McMullen got in on the offensive action with a goal assisted by Johnny Zarate in the 57th minute. Nash McMullen then scored off a cross from Michael Reynaud in the 68th minute, starting goalie Nacho Diaz scored in the 69th minute from Nash McMullen, and Nico Kuyper scored in the 77th minute.
