Truckee softball players named to all-league
Three Truckee High softball players earned Northern 3A all-league honors for the 2006 season. The selections were voted on by Northern 3A coaches.
– Senior Dani Turner made first-team all-league at first base. Turner finished the season with a .487 batting average, a 1.013 slugging percentage, 43 RBIs and nine home runs in 26 games. Aside from her offensive production, Truckee head coach Mitch Brown said Turner played a solid first base, allowing very little to get by her.
– Corina Mincey, a senior who returned to the diamond after taking off her junior year, was named to the all-league first team as a designated hitter. Mincey finished the season with a .510 average, 28 RBIs and three home runs.
Brown expressed the importance of the roles Turner and Mincey played as team leaders.
“It would have been a whole different year if we didn’t have those two on our team,” Brown said. “They were very instrumental in making sure we stayed together as a team. They did everything they could to make everyone better.”
– In her first year playing high school varsity softball, sophomore Katie Reiswig earned all-league honorable mention as an outfielder. Reiswig “had a very good season,” Brown said, hitting .508 with 14 RBIs and two home runs.
