Truckee softball | Vikings quit early for 2nd time in a week

In yet another stormy Mount Rose League matchup against South Tahoe on Friday, the Truckee softball team again jumped out to a big lead before the host Vikings called the game early.

Truckee scored seven runs in the first inning and led 14-0 in the fourth when the South Tahoe coaching staff ended the game, said Truckee coach Martin Davy. The Vikings also ended last Wednesdayand#8217;s game in Truckee in the fifth inning after the Wolverines had taken a 10-1 lead with no outs in the fifth.

Senior starting pitcher Stacy Brenes went the distance for the Wolverines, working her way out of trouble on several occasions to preserve the shutout.



Truckee had 10 hits in the game, led by Brenesand#8217; 3-for-3 day with a double and three RBI.

Senior outfielder Tracy Pearson went 2 for 2 with a triple, Krysta Murphy had a grand slam and four RBI, Cheyenne Acevedo went 1 for 2 with a double and two RBI, and Natalya Jones and Bailey LeClair each were 1 for 2 with an RBI. Katie Churchman had a hit, and Jessie Jensen contributed two RBI and Claire DePew one RBI.



Game 2 of the scheduled doubleheader was rained out, and was to be made up on Monday, Davy said.

Truckee improved to 5-2 in Mount Rose League play and 11-7-1 overall.
