Truckee softball | Wolverines pay back Vikings with doubleheader sweep

The Truckee softball team rebounded from a 6-3 loss at South Tahoe last Wednesday with a doubleheader sweep, 4-3 and 13-1, against the Vikings at home on Saturday.

Sophomore Breanna Weber threw complete games in both contests to earn a pair of wins, as she limited the Vikings to three runs on a total of 10 hits on the day, with eight strikeouts in the first game.

The Wolverines defeated South Tahoe starter Hannah Neiger in both games after managing only one hit off of Neiger on Wednesday.

Game 1 remained tied 1-1 through three innings. South Tahoe took a brief 2-1 lead in the top of the fourth, but Truckee answered with three runs in the bottom half of the inning to surge ahead.

Claire DePew went 3-for-4 with two RBIs, while Jessie Jensen also was 3-for-4 with an RBI. Cheyenne Acevedo, Krysta Murphy and Kaite Churchman each contributed one hit.

It was all Truckee in Game 2. The Vikings scored once in the first before the Wolverines responded with two in the bottom of the first, seven in the third and four in the fourth to coast to the easy win.

Jensen led the way at the plate, as she finished 4-for-5 with five RBIs. Jordan Salas drove in three runs on one hit, Acevedo had two hits and an RBI, and DePew had a hit and two RBIs.

Truckee improved to 11-10-1 overall and 8-1 in Mount Rose League play. South Tahoe dropped to 9-10 in league and 7-4 in league.
