Truckee swimmers show Hug, Sparks who’s boss on road
At the Truckee pool on March 20, the Tahoe-Truckee High School girls’ swim team beat Hug 127-23, while Hug beat the Truckee boys 49-22.
Individual best times came from the following swimmers in each event:
— Tess Lannoy; 50-meter freestyle.
— Jessica McGovern in the 50m freestyle and in the 100m breaststroke
— Desiree Pannella in the 50m freestyle
— Sandy Theil in the 100m fly and in the 100m backstroke
— Ellia Burril in the 500m freestyle
— Relay team Megan Harter, McGovern, Theil and Lannoy had best season finish in the 400m free and 200m medley relay.
— Relay team Burill, Tammy Gardner, Stephanie Bundy and Robin Moore had best times in the 200m freestyle relay
— Relay team Pannella, Melanie Hurst, Liz Olsen and Chrissy Working had season-best times in the 200m freestyle relay, as well.
Head coach Lavonna Butz said two boys, freshmen Curtis Robinson and Zach Lannoy, recently joined the team.
“They’re showing a lot of potential,” said Butz.
A week later at Northwestern in Sparks, more first places and personal bests came from Truckee swimmers, as the team swam against Sparks.
— 200m medley relay- Truckee’s “A” relay team won in 1:59.49, with the “B” team coming in third.
— 200m freestyle – Harter took first, earning a personal record in 2:10.59. Truckee’s Tessie Boreen was second.
— 200m individual medley – Theil was first; personal record; in 2:22.86. McGovern was second.
— 50m freestyle – Burrill; first; personal record in 27:50. Working was second.
Hurst was sixth; personal record; in 32:16.
— 100m butterfly – Theil; first in 1:02.06. Harter finished second.
— 100m freestyle – Burrill; first in 1:06.34. Bundy earned a personal record, finishing in 1:07.53 for second place.
— 50m freestyle – Working; first in 6:55.06.
— 200m freestyle – Truckee “A” relay team won in 1:49.47. Truckee “B” relay; third.
— 100m backstroke – Lannoy; first in 1:08.53. Bundy; personal record in 1:20.53
— 100m breaststroke – McGovern; first in 1:12.92. Moore; third with a personal record in 1:28.07; improving on her best time by five seconds. Boreen; personal best in 1:28.13.
— 400m freestyle relay – Truckee relay; second in 4:55.15.
“I’m seeing lots of improvement,” said Butz. “I’m working them hard.”
The next meet is Saturday, April 4, at the University of Nevada Reno.
