Truckee Tahoe Swim Team strong in season finale
Special to the Sun
The Truckee Tahoe Swim Team (TTST) arrived in numbers to the season-ending swim meet recently hosted by the Plumas Pikes Swim Team in Quincy.
TTST was the second largest team at the meet and was a well pronounced force of aquatic power during the two days of racing.
The scene must be described to truly be understood.
First came Woodstock, a harmonious party that grew to unexpected proportions and historic value. Then came the Wildflower, a triathlon party grown from a folk music festival to an athletic spectacle on the beautiful California savanna to one of the largest single triathlon weekend parties on the face of the earth.
Then came the Quincy swim meet.
Swimmers and families from all over Northern California and Nevada converged on the Community Pool and nearby fairgrounds in the town of Quincy.
The hosts and facilities could not have been better prepared. From the grace under pressure displayed by the snack bar staff to stock car racing at night for entertainment during the post-race fatigue stages of the weekend, the Plumas Pikes Swim Team rolled out the red carpet for everyone in attendance.
After setting up camp Friday afternoon, the TTST Torpedo family assembled for some light conversation and socialization (strategic planning and plotting).
Meanwhile, the 36 swimmers gathered with coaches in small groups for some pre-event cross-training (skateboarding, scooters, bikes, volleyball, frisbee and any other forms of childish entertainment that could be found).
Once the racing started Saturday morning, TTST was focused, determined and poised to strike.
The volume of metals, ribbons and personal best times on the weekend was astonishing. While fellow TTST swimmers were racing, the edges of the pool deck were swarming with cheering members of the team. The fan fair was the same, whether the racer in the water was the oldest or the youngest member of the squad.
The Truckee powerhouse team that took a second place overall at Quincy was comprised of the following swimmers listed below.
Each of the TTST swimmers accomplished a lot this year. Unable to attend this last meet, there is also a list of swimmers who put in a huge amount of effort during the year. TTST is a private team comprised of more than 70 swimmers. Many of these athletes gain the physical training benefits of aquatics and apply their strength to every other sport offered in Truckee. From football, soccer, skiing to triathlons, many of the participating young athletes have aquatic roots behind them.
If you know an aspiring young athlete ” ages 6 to 18 ” who is looking for a way to the top of their game, come by the Truckee Community Pool. Ask a TTST coach for team guidelines and tryout schedule. Then, step back and watch the development begin.
