Truckee teen captures fourth place at Junior Worlds

Truckee High School senior Allyson Carroll placed fourth in the Junior World Championships Big Air competition at Vivladi Park, Korea on Feb. 5.

“It was intimidating,” Carroll said of Junior Worlds, where she also competed in halfpipe and snowboardcross. “I was actually really surprised at the amount of competition.”

To earn a spot on the Junior National Team, the 17-year-old had to qualify through the Chevrolet Revolution Tour. Carroll ” whose home mountain is Northstar-at-Tahoe ” qualified by placing first in both snowboardcross and slopestyle in the tour’s Central Regional qualifier, in Duluth, Minn., on Jan. 13 and 15.

In addition to being named to the Junior National Team with her performance in Deluth, Carroll earned a starting spot in boardercross in the Lake Placid World Cup, as well as a Project Gold invitation ” to train with the U.S. Snowboard team this summer.

Carroll also holds the United States of America Snowboard Association national title for junior women’s slopestyle, boardercross and overall freestyle and was recently selected to the 2006 USASA All-American Team. She was also invited to compete at the World Snow Pro Slopestyle event in Les Duex Alps, France in March and a snowboardcross event in Italy and Switzerland later this winter.
