FALLON, Nev. and#8212; It came down to the final round, and the Truckee girls tennis could not rally.

The Wolverines fell 12-6 to Fallon on Tuesday in a league match. Katey Hamill, however, earned half the wins as the No. 1 singles player went 3-0.

She breezed through Christina Hesselgesser (6-2), Sam Price (6-1) and Kali Strong (6-1). Madison Richey, meanwhile, recorded Truckeeand#8217;s fourth win in singles with a 6-0 victory over Strong.

Taysa Mohler and Diana Rosas and Hannah Schlang and Aimee LaGrandeur each won a doubles match for the Wolverines. Mohler and Rosas dropped Becky Conner and Hannah Perazzo, 6-2, while Schlang and LaGrandeur bounced Perazzo and Debra Beyer, 6-2.

One disadvantage for Truckee was the absence of three starters, according to coach Jessica Putz.

and#8220;I was filling some spots to make sure we had a competitive team,and#8221; she said.

Itand#8217;s been a tough season for the Wolverines, who have managed only one win. The attitude of the girls, though, remains positive, Putz said.

Many of the girls are new to the sport and have kept an upbeat outlook throughout the year. Most of the newbies have teamed up on the doubles court, Putz said, which has led to the veterans taking singles action.

and#8220;Itand#8217;s baby steps,and#8221; she said. and#8220;Itand#8217;s a rebuilding year, but the girls are having a great time and thatand#8217;s all that counts.and#8221;

Hamill, meanwhile, is the undisputed No. 1 player and leader, Putz said. She can swing with most of her competitors and has her sights set on a regional appearance.

and#8220;She seems to do very well each time (out),and#8221; Putz said.

Looking forward, though, Putz said she wants to improve the girlsand#8217; consistency. An issue for many of the Wolverines has been spraying erratic shots.

Putz said focusing on the basics will help improve the fundamentals of the newer players in hopes of re-establishing the once dominate program.

and#8220;My group is in really good spirits,and#8221; she said. and#8220;I just have a really mellow team and pretty level-headed. Theyand#8217;re all out to have a good time.and#8221;

The Truckee boys tennis team defeated visiting Fallon 14-4 on Tuesday.

Fallon had done well against rival South Tahoe, with whom the Wolverines donand#8217;t have a regularly scheduled match this year until regional finals. This had the team psyched for a battle.

and#8220;It was good to see the team ready to play, coming out strong from the outset,and#8221; said Truckee coach Marc Pado.

Truckeeand#8217;s three starting singles players, Jake Kamenetsky, Jackson Rohlf and Branden Deeter, all won 6-0. All three doubles also won their sets with ease.

The second round was handed off to those players who often vie for the top seed spots. Joey Murray, Addison Dvoracek and Raphael Antz swept second-round sets.

and#8220;We threw together a few new partnerships in doubles, just to mix things up,and#8221; Pado said.

Up 12 sets to none, the freshman took to the courts and finished the match.
