Truckee thunder slow rolling
The Truckee Thunder baseball team started its summer league with a Memorial Day tournament in Reno against teams from Northern California and Nevada.
The team is made up of varsity and junior varsity Truckee High School players.
Varsity coach Jason Estabrook and junior varsity coach Chuck Smith, are coaching the summer league team.
Although the team hasn’t won any of its first six games the scores have been very close. The Truckee Thunder has loss four of is first six games by a combined total of six points.
Early standout Jimmy Williams is leading the team with an impressive .615 batting average.
Daniel Galvin is batting .429 and John Hooper is batting a .421.
Paul Smith has only five plate appearances, but he has hit a grand slam, a double, a single and a walk giving him an impressive 1.400 slugging percentage.
Smith is followed closely by his younger brother Nick with a slugging percentage of .800.
Williams and Paul Smith also lead the team in RBI’s with six apiece. The Truckee Thunders’ next game is Wednesday, June 4, at 5:00 p.m. against the Angels at the Governor’s Bowl in Reno.
