Truckee volleyball breezes through tourney

The Truckee High volleyball team dominated the competition at the season-opening Lowry Tournament this past weekend, winning every game of its 10 matches en route to the championship.

“I was very encouraged by what I saw and very excited,” said Nicole Annaloro, Truckee’s head coach. “Our defense was amazing.”

On the first day of the two-day tournament, which hosted 14 schools from Nevada, California and Idaho, only Yerington reached 20 points against the Wolverines.

Truckee defeated Skyview (Idaho), 25-24, 25-21, for the championship on Saturday.

Senior setter Megan Murphy was named Most Valuable Player of the tournament, and junior outside hitter Callan Finney received All-Tournament recognition.

On Friday, the Wolverines beat Nampa (Idaho), 25-16, 25-16, Lowry’s JV team, 25-11, 25-13, Yerington, 25-15, 25-20, Middleton (Idaho), 25-13, 25-16, Fernley, 25-11, 25-15 and Lovelock, 25-16, 25-11.

On Day 2, Truckee defeated Elko, 25-23, 25-15 and Middleton 25-15, 25-15 before edging Skyview, 25-20, 25-21, in the semifinal match. The Wolverines then faced Skyview again for the championship.

The Wolverines recorded 86 service aces in the 10 matches, Annaloro said.
