Truckee volleyball edged at 4A Douglas

The Truckee High volleyball team lost a nonleague match in five sets at 4A Douglas on Thursday.

“We knew going in that Douglas was a tough team and that they’d be tough to beat. We just wanted to play well,” said Truckee head coach Nicole Annaloro. “It’s kind of nice being the underdog.”

The Wolverines won the first two games, 25-22, 26-24, before the Tigers rebounded to take the final three, 14-25, 20-25, 10-15.

“The girls played well,” Annaloro said. “We’re really starting to come together as a team. It’s nice to see the younger girls getting comfortable on the court.”

Senior captains Callan Finney and Nikki Schneider led the way for the Wolverines. Finney recorded 11 kills, seven digs and two aces while Schneider had seven kills, six digs and two blocks.

Douglas is the No. 1-ranked team in the Sierra Nevada Sports Media Poll; Truckee, which is 7-3 overall and has yet to play a league match, is ranked eighth.

Truckee hosts a nonleague match against Portola on Tuesday at 6 p.m.
