The Wolverines will hit the road for league matches at Spring Creek and Elko this Friday and Saturday. Truckee returns home to host Fernley next Wednesday, Sept. 23.

The final score shows the Truckee volleyball team defeating visiting Fallon in straight sets Friday. But the victory did not come easily for the hosts, who dug deep to pull off the win, 26-24, 25-20, 28-26.

“You can see from the scores that it was not an easy win, but it was an excellent learning experience for our defense,” said Truckee coach Erika Murphy, whose Wolverines improved to 2-0 in Division I-A play (5-5 overall).

“Fallon had good hitters and their defense covered many of our tips. Their blockers challenged our hitting.”

Murphy added that having a good portion of Truckee’s football team in attendance helped motivate her players while bringing excitement to the gym.

Truckee posted 34 kills in the match, led by junior Maia Dvoracek’s 15 kills and senior Anais Fay’s 11. Maddie Haley added four kills.

The Wolverines also had eight service aces, with Fay, Dvoracek, Maddie Bromley and Katie Fisher recording two apiece.

Dvoracek tallied 20 assists and sophomore Jordan Brown had 14, and Fisher had nine digs. Senior Tatum Kula had two blocks. Dvoracek, Bromley and Haley each had one block.

Fallon juniors W Skabelund and Haylee Paladini each finished with seven kills, while Paladini had 10 blocks and four aces. The Greenwave had 23 blocks in all.
