Truckee volleyball | Wolverines sweep past Dust Devils in league opener

Finally, the Truckee volleyball team squared up against a school its own size.

After opening the season with a tough slate of matches against large schools, resulting in a 3-6 record, the Wolverines swept past defending league champion Dayton, 25-19, 25-20, 25-19, in their Division I-A opener Tuesday.

Truckee coach Erika Murphy was impressed with her young team’s showing, especially junior Anais Fay, whom she named Player of the Match.

Fay finished with four kills, three blocks and a service ace.

Sophomore Maia Dvoracek tallied nine kills, 11 assists, two blocks and two aces, and Taylor Stevens had seven kills, 11 service points, seven digs and three aces.

Tori Simpson contributed 11 service points and nine digs, Shelby Gendreau had 16 assists, and Kari Murphy had two blocks and seven digs. Lauren Anderson added two aces.

The Wolverines are scheduled to play at Sparks on Friday. They return home to host Fallon on Tuesday at 6 p.m.
