Truckee wrestlers open at state tourney

Senior Tim Curtis and three Truckee High School teammates are set to compete in the NIAA State Wrestling Championships starting Friday at Spanish Springs High in Sparks.Curtis will be joined by Bobby Waters, Kyle Mullen and Nick Krasensky during the two-day event, which will showcase Nevadas top high school wrestlers in the 2A, 3A and 4A classifications. Opening ceremonies for the 3A competition are scheduled to start at 11:20 a.m. today.Curtis earned his trip to state with a third-place finish in the 160-pound weight class at the Northern 3A Regional Tournament last weekend in Spring Creek. Curtis will open against the No. 2 seed from the South, with the winner of that match advancing to the semifinals.Waters, a sophomore, earned a repeat trip to state with a fourth-place finish in the 135-pound weight class on Saturday. Mullen, a freshman, placed fourth at 119 pounds, and Krasensky advanced with a fifth-place finish in the 145-pound division.Championship-round matches in the 2A, 3A and 4A classifications are scheduled to begin on three mats at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday.
