Truckee wrestling | Tyler Curtis second at regionals
Truckee senior Tyler Curtis wrestled to a second-place finish at 182 pounds in the Northern Division I-A regional championships at the Winnemucca Events Center this past weekend.
Curtis will now compete in the Division I-A state championships at the Reno Livestock Events Center on Friday and Saturday as the North’s No. 2 seed.
At regionals, Curtis opened the tournament with a pin against Daniel Loyola of South Tahoe and a pin against Jed Johnson of Lowry in the semifinal round.
That set up a regional championship match between Curtis and Fernley’s Erik Wilson, who also pinned his first two opponents. Wilson earned the regional title and top Northern seed with a 4-0 decision in the final match.
Also competing for Truckee was Dylan Clifton, who finished sixth in the 126-pound weight class.
Curtis is scheduled to begin the state championship tournament against Paul Menard of Clark on Friday at 4:30 p.m. Check the NIAA website (www.niaa.com) for a full bracket.
